END-OF-WINTER WATER LEVEL ON LAKE OF THE WOODS

QUESTION:  Has the end-of-winter level (lowest level in February-May period) changed over time?
ANSWER:  The average end-of-winter level increased through the 1970's, 80's and 90's, but was still lower than in the 1920's, 40's and 50's. The highest and lowest end-of-winter levels recorded occurred prior to 1950. The end-of-winter levels in 2002, 2003 and 2004 were lower than the average for the 1990's, while those in 2000, 2001 and 2005 were higher.
